Consultant on Gender Equality and Women Economic Empowerment
Organizational Context
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is seeking a consultant to support its mandate in promoting gender equality and women's economic empowerment across the Arab region. This role operates within the Gender Justice, Population and Inclusive Development cluster, contributing to regional efforts to address significant gender gaps in political and economic participation.
Job Purpose
The consultant will provide essential input and contributions to advance gender equality and women's economic empowerment initiatives within the Arab region. This involves developing data collection tools, conducting literature reviews, preparing concept notes for knowledge products, and contributing to studies and reports. The role supports ESCWA's efforts to translate global normative frameworks into region-specific actions, focusing on areas such as gender justice, women's peace and security, women's economic empowerment, and the care economy. The consultant will also contribute to capacity-building workshops and national dialogues aimed at policy reform and the development of strategies to address gender disparities and enhance women's resilience.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for developing and implementing data collection tools, including questionnaires and guides for surveys, interviews, and focus groups. They will conduct necessary research and desk reviews on gender equality and women's empowerment topics, and analyze collected data. Key duties include drafting sections or chapters for studies, preparing concept notes for knowledge products, and writing specific issue papers. The consultant will also contribute to the preparation and organization of meetings, consultations, and capacity-building workshops for relevant stakeholders, including governmental entities. This involves preparing required inputs for these events and disseminating findings from knowledge products to advocate for legal and policy reforms.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in socio-economic issues is required. Experience in preparing and reviewing publications or reports is essential. Prior experience working in the Arab region, on gender issues, women's economic empowerment, and with government entities is also required or desirable.
