Organizational Context
This position is part of the Support Strategies Sub-unit within the Energy and Building Strategies Group, Section of Buildings and Technical Services, Central Support Services, Division of Administration at the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). The role contributes to the efficient management and strategic planning of UNOG's facilities.
Job Purpose
The Draughtsman is responsible for spatial reorganization studies using computerized systems, requiring proficiency in drawing software and databases. This includes assessing needs, preparing reports and proposals for space redistribution, and estimating risks associated with space utilization within UNOG buildings. The role supports project supervision and space management by compiling requests, evaluating space allocation impacts, and maintaining computerized plan databases. Additionally, the position involves developing space occupation standards, generating statistical data for space analysis, and creating detailed tables for various facilities and equipment. The incumbent also undertakes specific IT tasks, conducts feasibility and execution studies for projects, and prepares technical drawings and specifications in compliance with standards and budgets.
Responsibilities
The Draughtsman performs spatial reorganization studies using computerized systems, necessitating strong skills in drawing software and databases. Key duties include assessing needs, drafting reports, proposing space redistributions, and estimating associated risks. The role supports project supervision and space management by evaluating space allocation requests and maintaining computerized plan databases. Responsibilities extend to developing space occupation standards, generating statistical data for space analysis, and creating detailed tables for surfaces and equipment. The incumbent also conducts feasibility and execution studies for projects, prepares cost estimates and schedules, and produces technical drawings and specifications. This includes collaborating on Building Information Modeling (BIM) principles, drafting tender documents, and participating in the analysis of bids. The role involves data entry, updating plans after site modifications, performing quantity take-offs for cost control, and managing, archiving, and updating all building plans. Furthermore, the position involves controlling the condition and occupancy of premises and establishing renovation programs.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of experience in the building sector, construction techniques, and space management is required. This minimum is reduced to 3 years for candidates with a bachelor's degree or higher. Practical experience with computer equipment and CAD/office software is essential.
Skills
Proficiency in drawing software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit Architecture) and databases. Knowledge of building sector, materials, and construction techniques. Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM). Strong sense of professionalism, responsibility, and client focus. Ability to perform quantity take-offs and cost control. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
