Organizational Context
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is a UN agency mandated to assist and protect approximately 5.8 million registered Palestine refugees across the Middle East. It provides essential services including education, health, and social services, operating as the largest UN entity in the region with over 30,000 staff. This role is within the Area Education Programme in the West Bank.
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality basic education to refugee students within a designated area, aiming to maximize each child's academic potential and improve overall school achievement. The incumbent provides technical supervision and guidance to School Principals and Deputy School Principals, fostering a safe and stimulating learning environment. Key functions include managing staff performance, coordinating support services for students, overseeing efficient administration of school resources, and maintaining positive relationships with community stakeholders. The position reports to the Chief Field Education Programme on technical matters and the Chief, Area Office on operational issues, while supervising a team of education professionals.
Responsibilities
Ensures the delivery of quality basic education services to refugee students, aiming to realize academic potential and improve achievement levels. Provides technical supervision and guidance to School Principals and Deputy School Principals, fostering a safe and stimulating learning environment. Manages the performance and behavior of school leadership against established standards, including goal setting and feedback. Develops and maintains positive relationships with community leaders, NGOs, and government institutions. Oversees the coordination of support services for underperforming students, liaising with staff, specialists, and parents. Ensures effective and efficient administration of staff, students, premises, and supplies according to UNRWA guidelines. Inspects school facilities and equipment to ensure compliance with Agency standards. Performs other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Requires at least seven years of experience in teaching or instructing relevant subjects, with a minimum of three years in a School Principal or similar administrative/supervisory role. Possession of a valid driving license is mandatory. Residency in the West Bank or Jerusalem with a valid ID is desirable.
