Intern - Human Rights / Access to Justice and Fight against Impunity

Organizational Context

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Colombia seeks an intern to support its mandate in human rights and access to justice. This role is based in Bogota and contributes to critical work on international human rights standards, transitional justice, and combating impunity within the UN Secretariat.

Job Purpose

The intern will provide essential support to the OHCHR's human rights and access to justice initiatives in Colombia. This involves conducting legal research on international human rights standards, analyzing policy information related to justice and impunity, and assisting in the drafting of various documents. The role aims to enhance the office's capacity to address complex human rights issues, contributing to the promotion and protection of human rights and the fight against impunity. The intern will gain practical experience in international human rights law and policy within a UN context.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include conducting legal research on international human rights standards, treaty bodies, and jurisprudence. The intern will assist in compiling and analyzing legal and policy information concerning access to justice, enforced disappearance, transitional justice, and non-recurrence. Responsibilities also encompass supporting the drafting of background notes and other technical or analytical documents, preparing summaries and analytical materials, and organizing information relevant to ongoing projects. The intern will perform other duties as assigned by their supervisor.

Work Experience

No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, candidates with familiarity with international human rights law, transitional justice, or related areas are considered an asset. Strong research and analytical skills are expected.
