Job Purpose
This role provides essential technical expertise in urban planning and design, with a specific focus on water, climate resilience, and stakeholder engagement for the UN-Habitat Urban Lab. The consultant will contribute to developing and implementing innovative solutions for sustainable urbanization, supporting country-level projects, and enhancing the agency's capacity to address complex urban challenges. The position aims to strengthen access to expertise, financing, and capacity for sustainable urban development and climate resilience, aligning with the 2030 Agenda and the New Urban Agenda.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide technical expertise on urban planning, water, climate resilience, and stakeholder engagement for Urban Lab projects. Key duties include conducting research, data gathering, and assessments on relevant policies and strategies, documenting findings, and preparing briefing reports. The role involves supporting the coordination of project activities, developing presentations, training materials, and delivering workshops. Additionally, the consultant will assist in organizing participatory, multi-stakeholder processes, contribute to Urban Lab documents and publications, and support the technical development of country proposals, fundraising strategies, and the overall project portfolio.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in sustainable urban development or urban planning, focusing on water, climate resilience, and urban systems, is required. Experience in organizing and facilitating workshops and stakeholder meetings is also necessary. Experience with multi-stakeholder project coordination and familiarity with participatory processes are desirable.
