Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the UN's focal point for coordinating disaster risk reduction efforts globally. Established in 1999, it monitors and reports on the Sendai Framework implementation, supporting regional and national resilience-building. This internship is based in the UNDRR Regional Office for Africa in Nairobi.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the UNDRR Regional Office for Africa in two key workstreams: Recovery Readiness and Sendai Framework Monitoring. The intern will contribute to assessing recovery frameworks, organizing regional events, managing knowledge resources, and tracking project progress. Additionally, they will assist in monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 within African Member States. This role provides practical experience in disaster risk reduction, data analysis, and international cooperation within a UN system context.
Responsibilities
Support the Recovery Readiness workstream by assisting in the compilation and analysis of recovery assessments, case studies, and country frameworks. Organize regional workshops, webinars, and consultations on resilient recovery and disaster planning. Contribute to knowledge management by organizing documentation and best practices. Track progress of recovery projects and partnerships, supporting monitoring tools and reporting. Assist in communication and outreach for recovery readiness initiatives, including drafting briefing notes. Support the Sendai Framework Monitoring workstream by assisting with regional monitoring and reporting activities. Compile and analyze data for SFM reporting by African Member States. Coordinate with national focal points on disaster loss data and Sendai Framework indicators. Manage datasets, dashboards, and internal monitoring tools. Prepare analytical summaries and background materials for disaster risk reduction monitoring.

No professional work experience is required for this internship. A relevant academic background in disaster risk reduction, data analysis, or related fields is necessary. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses.
