Job Purpose
The purpose of this internship is to provide support to the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) in its mission to protect and promote all human rights for all people. The intern will assist in empowering individuals to realize their rights and support those responsible for upholding rights. This role contributes to OHCHR's public information and media outreach efforts, ensuring effective communication of its work, the Treaty Bodies, and Special Rapporteurs. The intern will gain practical experience in communications, media relations, and human rights advocacy within an international organization.
Responsibilities
The intern will draft website articles and social media posts, and research current human rights issues to support media and public information outreach. Responsibilities include maintaining and updating media mailing lists, conducting media monitoring, and compiling news clippings related to OHCHR, Treaty Bodies, and Special Rapporteurs. The intern will also assist in preparing materials for press conferences, setting up and running events, particularly around Human Rights Day, and researching content for speeches. The role involves performing other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to communications, media relations, or human rights is necessary. Applicants must be students in their final year of a university degree program or have completed their degree.
