Consultant for Child-sensitive Mediation Training
Organizational Context
The Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (OSRSG-CAAC) is the UN's leading advocate for children affected by armed conflict. This role supports the Analysis and Outreach Hub in Doha, Qatar, by developing and delivering specialized training on child-sensitive mediation to government officials, diplomats, and mediators.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to strengthen the capacity of government officials, diplomats, and mediators to integrate child protection considerations into mediation, negotiation, and ceasefire processes. The consultant will design and deliver a three-day specialized training program in Doha, Qatar, focusing on practical application, case studies, and simulations. The objective is to enhance participants' understanding and skills in child-sensitive mediation, ultimately supporting institutions in embedding these approaches into their practices. The role also involves developing training materials and contributing to future capacity-building efforts.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide substantive input to the training concept and finalize training content, case studies, and simulation exercises. They will be responsible for delivering the child-sensitive mediation component of the training in person and facilitating simulation exercises, including those on humanitarian ceasefire drafting, child soldier DDR, and principled negotiation. Additionally, the consultant will prepare a short after-action report detailing key themes, participant engagement, and recommendations for institutionalizing child-sensitive mediation practices. They will also provide any outstanding training materials or guidance notes to the OSRSG-CAAC.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in peace and security, mediation, political affairs, human rights, or protection is required. Demonstrated experience in mediation, negotiation, peace processes, and integrating protection considerations is essential. Experience in designing and delivering training to government officials, diplomats, or mediators is also required.

Expertise in mediation, negotiation, and peace processes; knowledge of child-sensitive mediation and child protection in conflict settings; strong training and facilitation skills, including simulations and case studies; analytical, drafting, and communication skills; familiarity with the UN system and relevant international actors.
