Intern - Drug Control and Crime Prevention

Organizational Context

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), specifically the Civil Society Unit (CSU) within the Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs, is seeking interns in Vienna, Austria. The CSU manages the Civil Society Global Programme (GLOU68), facilitating dialogue between civil society, Member States, and the private sector to combat corruption, drug issues, and other crimes, promoting stakeholder participation in UNODC activities.

Job Purpose

This internship offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to the UNODC's Civil Society Global Programme (GLOU68), focusing on engagement with non-governmental stakeholders in anti-corruption, drug, and crime prevention efforts. The intern will gain practical experience by participating in project cycles, including drafting concept notes, implementation, and reporting. A key aspect of the role involves supporting the development of diverse communication materials to enhance the visibility of CSU activities and their impact. This position is designed to provide hands-on experience in international crime prevention and drug control initiatives, fostering a deeper understanding of UNODC's mission and the role of civil society in achieving its objectives.

Responsibilities

The intern will actively contribute to the implementation of Programme GLOU68, engaging in various project cycle stages such as drafting concept notes, implementation support, and reporting. Responsibilities include developing a range of communication materials, like flyers and web stories, to increase visibility for events and highlight the unit's impact. The intern will also attend and document events, meetings, and conferences, and assist in the preparation of CSU activities and events. Additionally, conducting research and performing other necessary tasks to support the unit's objectives are integral parts of the role.

Work Experience

Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must be pursuing a degree in a field closely related to the internship's focus. Experience with tools for developing communication materials is considered a plus.

Skills

Computer literacy in standard software applications. Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to its ideals. Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, showing tolerance and understanding of differing opinions. Fluency in English. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is desirable. Creative ideas for developing visibility materials.
