International Consultant (WDR Drug Demand and Health Consequences)

Organizational Context

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) produces the World Drug Report (WDR), an annual publication aimed at enhancing understanding of global drug issues and promoting international cooperation. This role contributes to the Research and Trend Analysis Branch, specifically within the Research and Knowledge Production Section, supporting the WDR's objective to analyze drug use and its health consequences.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this consultancy is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of global and regional trends in drug demand and health consequences for the 2027 edition of the World Drug Report. The role involves producing data sets, global/regional estimates, and thematic analyses, contributing to the report's online segment and overall integration. The consultant will present the current situation and emerging trends in drug use and its health impacts, providing crucial insights for policy and research. This position is home-based and requires close collaboration with UNODC colleagues.

Responsibilities

The consultant will conduct a thorough literature and data review on drug demand and health consequences, developing outlines for the WDR's online segment and highlights. Key duties include producing the data set for WDR 2027, analyzing data to generate global, regional, and national estimates, and preparing thematic analyses and key messages. The role also involves addressing feedback on produced outputs, finalizing all deliverables, and creating necessary methodological materials for the WDR 2027. Contributions to special points of interest within the report are also expected.

Work Experience

A minimum of 5 years of experience in public health, epidemiology, sociology, or a related field is required, with a proven track record of scientific publications or contributions to published reports. Experience in managing datasets, using statistical software, and producing analytical publications according to UN standards is desirable.
