The Department of Global Communications, within the UN Secretariat, seeks an intern for the UN Web TV Public Information team in New York. This role supports daily coverage and archival of UN meetings, contributing to the UN Photo Unit's operations. Job Purpose
The purpose of this internship is to provide support to the UN Photo Unit within the Department of Global Communications. The intern will contribute to the daily coverage and digital retouching of current and archival images from United Nations meetings. A key aspect of the role involves learning to use a Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform for uploading, archiving, and metadata tagging of photographs for the UN Photo website. The intern will also gain exposure to social media activities and assist with other related tasks, contributing to the dissemination of visual information from the UN.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the daily coverage and digital retouching of current and archival images from United Nations meetings. Perform basic captioning of current photographic coverage. Receive training on and utilize a Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform (Orange Logic) for uploading, archiving, and tagging photographs with relevant metadata for the UN Photo website. Assist with managing and updating Social Media accounts. Support other tasks as assigned by the UN Photo Unit, contributing to the overall visual communication efforts of the department.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Familiarity with standard office software applications is expected. Experience with news article drafting or social media posts is desirable.
Skills
Computer literacy in standard word processing and spreadsheets. Proficiency in MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Ability to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds. Keen interest in the UN's work. Demonstrated ability to understand and tolerate differing opinions. Experience with DAM platforms (Orange Logic) is a plus. Ability to draft news articles and social media posts is desirable.
