Organizational Context
The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) provides support to the Gang Suppression Force, BINUH, Haitian National Police, and Haitian Armed Forces, as mandated by Security Council resolution 2793 (2025). UNSOH also delivers technical assistance to the Organization of American States. This temporary position is based in Port-au-Prince within the Safety and Security Section, Emergency Response Team.
Job Purpose
The Security Officer, FS-5, is responsible for managing daily operations and administrative duties of a security emergency response team. This includes assessing local security conditions, identifying trends, and advising UN personnel and eligible dependents on security matters. The role involves contributing to the implementation and evaluation of security plans, assessing evacuation capabilities, and coordinating a 24-hour Emergency Response System. The officer will monitor and coordinate security operations, maintain communication with stakeholders, and provide initial support for incidents like armed robbery and traffic accidents, ensuring security equipment meets policy requirements.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include assisting with office management procedures and supervising security units as needed. The role involves developing and monitoring security contingency plans, and managing the daily operations of a security emergency response team. The Security Officer will assess local security conditions, identify trends, and advise UN personnel on security issues. Responsibilities also include contributing to security plan implementation and evaluation, assessing evacuation capabilities, and coordinating the 24-hour Emergency Response System. The officer will assess security risks, monitor and coordinate security operations, maintain communication with stakeholders, and brief supervisors on unit status. Additionally, identifying training needs, providing initial security support for incidents, and inspecting security equipment are crucial duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of eight years of progressive experience in military, police, or security management is required, with at least two years in security operations centers or similar roles. One year of international experience in a conflict or post-conflict environment is also required.
