Job Purpose
The Associate Project Officer (Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling) is responsible for promoting UNODC's work against trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants in West and Central Africa, aligning with international protocols and UNODC's Regional Strategy. This role involves resource mobilization, acting as a focal point for the PROMIS project in Mali, and contributing to its development, implementation, and evaluation. The incumbent will monitor project progress, identify issues, and propose solutions. They will liaise with national counterparts and international organizations, track follow-up actions, and provide technical and logistical support for project activities. The position requires research, analysis, and presentation of gathered information, as well as the design and facilitation of training materials and outreach activities. The role also involves preparing written outputs, supporting meetings, and contributing to data analysis and reporting to inform planning and decision-making.
Responsibilities
Promote UNODC's initiatives against human trafficking and migrant smuggling in West and Central Africa, adhering to relevant UN protocols. Support the implementation of UNODC's Regional Strategy and efforts to mobilize resources through collaboration with partners. Serve as the primary contact for the PROMIS project in Mali, actively participating in its development, implementation, and evaluation. Monitor project progress, identify challenges, and recommend corrective actions. Liaise with national authorities, civil society, and international organizations, and track related follow-up actions. Provide technical and logistical support for project activities in Mali, including data collection and organization. Conduct research and analysis on trafficking and smuggling issues in Mali. Design, prepare, and facilitate training materials and conduct outreach activities. Prepare various written outputs, including reports, analyses, and publications. Support consultative meetings and conferences by preparing documents and presentations. Represent UNODC in relevant networks and participate in workshops and events. Contribute to data collection, analysis, and reporting, utilizing data visualization methods for informed decision-making. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in criminal justice, human rights, law, or a related field is required. Experience in addressing trafficking in persons and/or smuggling of migrants is essential. Familiarity with project formulation, implementation, and monitoring, as well as experience with international organizations, is desirable.
