Organizational Context
The United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) in Kyrgyzstan supports the UN Country Team (UNCT) to ensure a coherent and effective UN presence. The RCO focuses on communications, advocacy, partnerships, and reporting, aligning with global UN priorities and the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. This internship is based in Bishkek and offers a hybrid work modality.
Job Purpose
This internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in communications and advocacy within the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Kyrgyzstan. The intern will support efforts to enhance the visibility of UN activities, contribute to content creation, and assist with media monitoring. The role aims to offer hands-on experience in multimedia production, campaign support, and event logistics, contributing to the RCO's mission of effective UN coordination and communication in the country. This position is ideal for students seeking to apply their academic knowledge in a professional international development setting.
Responsibilities
Provide logistical and functional support for UN events such as press conferences and workshops. Assist in drafting, translating, and editing communication materials including press releases and social media posts. Support the creation of multimedia content, such as photography, videography, and graphic design for digital and print materials. Contribute to UN communication campaigns and visibility initiatives. Conduct media monitoring by compiling daily and weekly coverage of UN activities from national and regional media sources. Assist with translations between English, Russian, and Kyrgyz languages as needed. Maintain an organized archive of communication materials, including news clippings, photos, videos, and reports. Perform other communications-related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must be students in their final year of a bachelor's, master's, or PhD program, or have completed such a program.
Skills
Photography, videography, editing, and design software proficiency (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Canva). Familiarity with social media platforms and content management. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills for multicultural team environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Fluency in English and Russian (oral and written). Working knowledge of Kyrgyz is a strong asset.
