The International Trade Centre (ITC) is a joint agency of the UN and WTO, supporting trade-related technical cooperation in developing countries. The Trade and Market Intelligence section develops and maintains data-driven tools like Trade Map to help identify export opportunities. This role contributes to the modernization and operational reliability of ITC's Trade Map data processing environment.
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for the collection, validation, formatting, and integration of trade in goods and services datasets into the Trade Map production database. The consultant will develop, adapt, and maintain data processing programs using SAS, Python, SQL, or similar technologies, ensuring data quality and integrity. Duties include gathering requirements, applying quality control procedures, updating databases, and collaborating with the Trade Map team to improve processing and dissemination activities. The role also involves collecting and processing international trade in services statistics, documenting anomalies, and answering client queries regarding the data.
Responsibilities
Collect, validate, format, and integrate trade in goods and services datasets into the Trade Map database, meeting scheduled timelines. Develop, adapt, and maintain data processing programs using SAS, Python, SQL, or similar technologies. Apply data quality control procedures to ensure data reliability and integrity. Update and maintain Trade Map production databases and ensure accurate data integration. Gather and document technical and operational requirements for data processing workflows. Collaborate with the Trade Map team on continuous improvement initiatives for data processing and dissemination. Collect and process international trade in services statistics, documenting any anomalies or deviations from standards. Answer client questions regarding trade in services data.
Work Experience
Requires at least two years of experience in Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processing. Experience in international trade in services statistics and customs trade statistics is desirable. Proven ability to work in a multicultural environment is necessary.
Skills
Data processing using Excel, R, and/or Python programming. Knowledge of SAS is an asset. Strong analytical capabilities, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently.
