Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide specialist support to the UNEP GEF Chemicals and Green Chemistry Unit in developing and implementing new GEF projects, particularly the integrated programme on pollution-free supply chains. The role involves drafting Expressions of Interest (EOI), Project Formulation Documents (PFD), and concept notes, coordinating with countries, identifying executing agencies and co-financers, and supporting project implementation in specific regions. The consultant will contribute to UNEP's mandate of assisting countries in executing chemicals-related GEF projects and managing its project portfolio effectively during the critical GEF-9 cycle.
Responsibilities
Develop Expressions of Interest (EOI) for UNEP-led GEF integrated programmes, such as the pollution-free supply chain initiative, in consultation with relevant stakeholders. Prepare Project Formulation Documents (PFD) and concept notes for global and UNEP-led child projects. Coordinate with potential countries to secure endorsements for UNEP-led child projects. Identify and engage potential co-financing partners, including investment banks and MDBs. Support the development and implementation of projects, particularly in the Caucasus and Central Asia regions. Provide assistance with portfolio management activities as needed, including project supervision and closing.
Work Experience
Requires at least 3 years of international project management experience, including project preparation. Essential is working knowledge and experience in the development and supervision of GEF projects. Experience in implementing environmental programmes and activities is desirable.
