Individual Contractor- Scraper

Organizational Context

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is seeking an Individual Contractor to support the Future of Work Project. This role will be based at UN-House in Beirut, with a hybrid work arrangement, for an expected duration of 5 months. The contractor will provide research support and data scraping activities.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to assist the Future of Work Project at ESCWA by performing essential data scraping activities. The Individual Contractor will contribute to addressing critical issues related to the labor market in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, including the lack of timely information, human capital mismatches, and outdated labor policies. The role involves identifying data sources, extracting relevant information, and ensuring the organized delivery of codes, datasets, and programs by the contract's end, supporting the project's overall objectives.

Responsibilities

The Individual Contractor will be responsible for identifying relevant job and employment-related websites for data scraping under guidance. This includes developing foundational skills in creating simple algorithms for extracting job listings, company information, and skills. The role requires working with web scraping tools and technologies, such as Python libraries (BeautifulSoup, Scrapy), with an emphasis on learning and application. Additionally, the contractor will monitor and update scraped data, identify and solve basic issues during the scraping process with team support, and ensure all codes, datasets, and programs are delivered in an organized manner by the end of the contract.

Work Experience

A minimum of 1 year of experience in web scraping is required. Experience should include identifying data sources, extracting information, and basic troubleshooting during the scraping process.
