National Human Rights Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Secretariat, specifically the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Suva, Fiji, is seeking a National Human Rights Intern. This role supports the OHCHR's regional mandate by assisting with communications, research, documentation, and event organization within the Pacific region.
Job Purpose
The National Human Rights Intern will provide crucial support to the OHCHR's regional office in Suva, Fiji. The intern will assist in various capacities, including communications and advocacy by developing materials and supporting campaigns, and research and documentation by gathering information and preparing reports on human rights issues in the Pacific. The role also involves supporting meetings and events, and performing administrative tasks. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in human rights work within a UN context, contributing to the promotion and protection of human rights in the region.
Responsibilities
The intern will assist with internal and external communications, developing communication tools, social media content, and advocacy materials, while supporting strategic communication initiatives and UN messaging coordination. Responsibilities also include conducting research on Pacific human rights issues, preparing reports, briefing notes, and country profiles, and responding to information requests. The intern will support meeting minutes preparation, assist in organizing conferences and events, attend meetings as appropriate, and manage logistical and administrative arrangements. Additional professional and administrative tasks assigned by the supervisor will also be undertaken.
