Organizational Context
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Forests and Air Section is seeking an intern to support the UNDA-18 project focused on "Empowering Women in Urban and Food Forest Management." This role is based in Geneva and contributes to advancing gender equality in environmental planning and policy at local and national levels.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this internship is to provide crucial support to the UNECE Forests and Air Section in implementing the UNDA-18 project. The intern will assist in national assessments of urban and food forest management, focusing on gender mainstreaming in governance. Key contributions include supporting the organization of workshops, developing online training materials for women in forest management, and aiding in the creation of a digital data collection module for the UNECE INForest Data Platform. This role directly contributes to evidence-based planning and the empowerment of women in environmental sectors.
Responsibilities
The intern will provide support for national assessments on urban and food forest planning and management, with a specific focus on integrating gender equality principles into governance, policy, and action. Responsibilities include assisting in the organization of workshops related to planning, funding, and managing urban and food forests, emphasizing gender equality and women's empowerment. The intern will also help prepare an online training module on urban and/or food forests designed to empower women in planning and management. Furthermore, the role involves assisting in the development of a digital module for forest data collection and dissemination on the UNECE INForest Data Platform to support evidence-based decision-making.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this UN Internship Programme. However, applicants must be students in the final year of a bachelor's degree program, or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs.
Skills
Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of Russian or French is desirable. Skills in supporting national assessments, organizing workshops, developing training materials, and data collection/dissemination modules are beneficial.
