Consultant on Policy Network on Artificial Intelligence
Organizational Context
The Internet Governance Forum (IGF), established by the UN Secretary-General, operates under the UN Office at Geneva. Its mandate is to facilitate multi-stakeholder policy dialogue on Internet governance issues, promoting sustainability, security, and development. The IGF's intersessional workstreams, including Policy Networks, aim to produce tangible outputs and foster continuous collaboration.
Job Purpose
This consultancy role supports the IGF's Policy Network on Artificial Intelligence (PNAI). The purpose is to facilitate and document the PNAI's work, including hosting meetings, synthesizing discussions, and drafting outputs. The consultant will contribute to the IGF's objective of strengthening intersessional work and fostering year-round multistakeholder cooperation on key digital policy issues. The outputs produced will inform policy debates and decision-making processes, supporting the IGF's role as a permanent UN forum for digital policy dialogue and collaboration.
Responsibilities
Facilitate and document the work of the Policy Network on Artificial Intelligence (PNAI), including hosting and reporting on PNAI meetings. Synthesize community discussions and draft substantive outputs, ensuring high-level knowledge of the subject matter and readability. Present and discuss these outputs during dedicated sessions at the 21st Annual Meeting of the Internet Governance Forum. Ensure timely submission of outputs and maintain cooperation with the MAG issue coordinator and other PNAI participants. Contribute to the development of iterative and living resources that reflect changing priorities and technological developments in Internet governance and digital policymaking.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience is required, including analytical work in areas such as ICTs, Internet governance, digital public policymaking, development management, participatory governance, and capacity building. Considerable experience in drafting high-level reports, meeting summaries, and synthesizing complex information is also necessary.
Skills
Expertise in AI, emerging technologies, human rights online, cybersecurity, digital inclusion, gender policy, and participatory policy development. Strong analytical, synthesis, and drafting skills. Excellent written and oral communication in English. Experience in facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues and policy development processes.
