Job Purpose
This role is crucial for the "Inclusive and Sustainable Rio" project, aimed at enhancing urban resilience in the State of Rio de Janeiro. The Local Manager will mobilize and raise public awareness regarding urban and climate resilience, focusing on non-structural disaster risk reduction actions. The position requires close collaboration with UN-Habitat's operational and technical teams, contributing to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the New Urban Agenda. The role supports the State in achieving urban prosperity and establishing a culture of sustainability, particularly through disaster prevention, mitigation policies, and youth engagement, ultimately contributing to safer, more inclusive, and resilient urban environments.
Responsibilities
The Local Manager will support project implementation by leading and guiding field teams, providing technical and operational assistance. This includes acting as a focal point between the project and the community to foster trust and collaboration. Key duties involve promoting community awareness of disaster preparedness and risk reduction, planning and executing field activities aligned with community needs, and establishing efficient operational strategies. The role requires assessing field execution, identifying areas for improvement, and proposing adjustments. Conflict management within field operations and adapting strategies to specific territorial needs or unforeseen circumstances are also essential. The manager will identify team training needs, support training delivery, develop community resilience-building activities, and implement environmental impact mitigation measures. Producing monthly reports on personal and field activities, including performance indicators and challenges, is a core responsibility.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in community mobilization related to urban development or disaster risk management in Brazil is required. Experience in leading or coordinating teams in field operations is desirable.
