Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) manages activities in Brazil. This role supports the "Inclusive and Sustainable Rio" project, a collaboration with the Rio de Janeiro State Government to enhance urban resilience.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for the "Inclusive and Sustainable Rio" project, aimed at strengthening urban resilience in Rio de Janeiro State through sustainable development and disaster risk reduction. The Local Manager will mobilize and raise public awareness about urban and climate resilience, focusing on non-structural actions. This position contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and implementing the New Urban Agenda by fostering a culture of sustainability and engaging local youth in disaster prevention and mitigation efforts, ultimately enhancing urban prosperity and livability.
Responsibilities
The Local Manager will lead, guide, and support field teams, providing technical and operational assistance. This includes acting as a focal point between the project and the community to build trust and collaboration, and promoting awareness of preventive actions and the role of different groups in risky situations. Responsibilities also involve planning and executing field activities aligned with community needs, establishing efficient action strategies, and adapting them to specific territorial contexts or unforeseen circumstances. The role includes assessing field execution, identifying improvement opportunities, managing conflicts, and reporting on personal and field activities, including performance indicators and challenges. Additionally, the manager will support training initiatives and develop activities to strengthen community resilience and mitigate environmental impacts.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in community mobilization related to urban development or disaster risk management in Brazil is required. Experience in leading or coordinating teams in field operations is desirable.
