Technical Professional in NDCs, Long-Term Strategies (LTS) and Climate Policy Coordination

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. The Climate Change Division is recruiting a technical professional to support the integration of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Long-Term Strategies (LTS) across its work, focusing on projects like NDC Act & Invest and building national capacities.

Job Purpose

This role aims to strengthen the integration of NDCs and LTS within UNEP's Climate Change Division. The purpose is to support the implementation of key projects, such as PAF Argentina and NDC Act & Invest, by building national capacities, fostering policy coherence, and creating enabling conditions for NDC 3.0 implementation in alignment with the Paris Agreement. The position contributes to raising climate ambition and resilience by translating climate commitments into actionable plans and promoting policy harmonization across various environmental and financial frameworks.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include supporting the implementation of the PAF Argentina and other NDC Act & Invest projects, and building national capacities to integrate climate change into public and private agendas. The role involves promoting policy coherence across climate, sectoral, and investment planning frameworks to facilitate the implementation of NDC 3.0. This includes advising the UNEP Climate Change Division team on relevant topics, leading the development of expected deliverables, and ensuring effective mainstreaming of NDCs and LTS into unit work, projects, and initiatives. The position also addresses critical gaps in policy alignment, financing, and implementation related to climate action.

Work Experience

A minimum of 5 years of experience is required in supporting the development, implementation, and analysis of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Long-Term Strategies (LTS). Relevant professional experience in climate policy, NDC implementation, transparency systems, or climate finance, particularly in the LAC region, is necessary. Experience preparing technical reports and policy briefs is also required.
