Organizational Context
The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) provides retirement, death, disability, and related benefits to over 90,000 beneficiaries globally. Administered by UNJSPF-Pension Administration, it comprises 282 staff across four duty stations. This role is within the Operations Support Section of the Operations Coordination and Liaison Unit, reporting to the Chief of OCLU, and is based in New York.
Job Purpose
The Benefits Assistant supports the planning, implementation, and processing of pension benefits within the Operations Coordination and Liaison Unit. This role acts as a focal point for coordinating and monitoring project implementation, liaising with internal units and member organizations to initiate requests, process administrative actions, and resolve implementation issues. The position also involves collaborating on standard operating procedures for the separation process, participating in training activities, and auditing administrative actions to ensure accuracy and consistency. The assistant will research, analyze, and present data for system enhancements, establish automated follow-up measures, and maintain reports to expedite case processing and document retrieval.
Responsibilities
Provide assistance in planning and implementing operations support activities for the Operations Coordination and Liaison Unit to ensure efficient pension benefit processing. Act as a liaison for coordinating and monitoring project implementation, interacting with internal units and member organizations to manage requests, process administrative actions, and resolve project issues. Collaborate with operations managers to establish standard operating procedures for the separation process. Participate in training activities, including material preparation. Audit administrative actions and data entry for accuracy and consistency, applying quality control checks for human resources and financial interfaces. Research, compile, analyze, and present data for system enhancements and interface development. Establish automated follow-up measures and maintain reports to track missing documents and pending cases. Prepare, maintain, and update files and databases, generating reports and statistical tables. Assist with data collection, analysis, and presentation for information sharing and decision-making. Provide guidance and training to junior staff.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in program or project support, administration, or a related field is required. This requirement is reduced to five years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Experience with ERP systems, business intelligence tools, data analysis using MS Excel, and within a post-employment benefit scheme or the UN common system is desirable.
