INFORMATION SYSTEMS ASSISTANT (Temporary Job Opening)
Organizational Context
This position is within the Digital and Technology Support Section (DTS) of the Statistics, Data and Digital Service (SDDS) at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva. The Information Systems Assistant reports to the Lead, Business Analysis Team, contributing to the section's technology support functions.
Job Purpose
The Information Systems Assistant serves as a key point of contact for user requests and provides essential technical support for relevant software systems. The role involves assisting in the planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of customized application software. This includes supporting system analysis, coding, testing, security compliance, and documentation for both new and existing applications, including legacy systems. The position also supports the assessment of new system needs, liaises with users and developers, conducts research on emerging technologies, and assists in testing and evaluating new products. Furthermore, the role supports the configuration and quality assurance of mobile applications and devices, ensuring connectivity and usability.
Responsibilities
The Information Systems Assistant acts as the primary contact for processing user requests and delivering basic technical support for assigned software systems. Responsibilities include supporting the full lifecycle of customized application software, from planning and specification to design, development, implementation, and maintenance. This involves working with senior IT staff on requirements, building and testing prototypes, and installing/maintaining software. The role also assists in redeveloping and maintaining customized applications, including legacy asset management systems, by supporting system analysis, coding, testing, security, documentation, and implementation. Additionally, the assistant provides support for software development matters, including security, data integrity, and recovery, and helps assess needs for new or modified systems. Regular communication with users and technical staff is maintained, along with research into new technologies and testing of new products. Support for configuring, testing, and ensuring the quality of mobile applications and devices, including connectivity and usability, is also a key duty.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in information systems analysis, programming, systems administration, software development, or related fields is required. Desirable experience includes two years in HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript development with a major Content Management System (CMS), and three years in telecom mobile application and device testing.
