Organizational Context
The United Nations Information Center (UNIC) in Washington D.C. serves as the primary source of information about the UN system within the United States. It promotes public understanding and support for UN aims by disseminating information, engaging local partners, and connecting the UN with the public it serves. This internship is hosted by the Department of Global Communications.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in public information and communications within the UN system. The intern will support the UNIC Washington D.C. in its mission to promote public understanding and support for the United Nations. This involves assisting with content creation, social media management, research for communication products, event preparation, and data organization. The role contributes to bringing the UN closer to the people it serves by enhancing the dissemination of UN information and engaging with local audiences and partners. The internship offers a valuable learning opportunity in international affairs and communications.
Responsibilities
Assist in developing and designing social media content, and analyze social media metrics. Support the creation of communication products by conducting research, compiling information, coordinating logistics, and responding to public inquiries. Aid in the preparation for events, high-level visitors, and speaking engagements. Help compile, analyze, and organize data for office reports. Attend meetings and draft summaries of discussions. Perform other related duties as assigned to support the office's public information mandate.
Work Experience
Professional experience is not required for this internship. However, relevant interests and knowledge in international affairs, international organizations, management, and change are beneficial. Experience with social media in a professional setting, consulting, policy work, or executive management support is considered an advantage.
