Logistics Officer (Data Analytics & Business Intelligence)
Organizational Context
The Department of Operational Support provides advisory services across the UN Secretariat. Within this, the Office of Supply Chain Management, specifically the Enabling and Outreach Service, focuses on operational reporting, business intelligence, and performance management. This Logistics Officer role is situated within this service at UN Headquarters in New York, reporting to the Section Chief.
Job Purpose
The Logistics Officer, Data Analytics and Business Intelligence, is responsible for supporting supply chain data analytics, data engineering, business intelligence, and data-model development. This includes working with SAP (Umoja) Analytics and UN BI data models, developing data pipelines, and creating management reports and analytics products for vendor registration and outreach. The role provides technical assistance and advice to management on data analytics and BI matters, develops methodologies for data collection and analysis, and formulates SOPs for measuring KPIs. The incumbent will also develop BI dashboards, contribute to BI data model enhancements, and ensure data integration and automation for SCM dashboards across various UN entities. Additionally, the role supports ongoing operations through business performance analysis, aids in decision-making, policy formulation, and process improvement, and ensures logistics requirements consider gender-specific needs.
Responsibilities
The Logistics Officer will support supply chain data analytics, data engineering, business intelligence, and data-model development, including SAP (Umoja) Analytics/UN BI data models and pipelines for vendor registration and outreach. Responsibilities include providing technical advice on data analytics and BI, developing and implementing data collection, validation, transformation, and analysis methodologies, and formulating SOPs for KPI measurement and process improvement. The role involves developing BI dashboards, contributing to BI data model enhancements, and ensuring automated data flows to SCM dashboards. The incumbent will also provide business performance analysis to support decision-making, coordinate business process improvements, prepare analytical reports, and participate in system testing and reviews. Furthermore, the role ensures accurate accounting and reporting systems, coordinates joint projects for data synergies with other organizations, and supervises junior staff.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in logistics operations or supply chain management is required. At least two years of experience in developing analytical tools, data pipelines, data modeling, and visualization applications (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) or BI tools (e.g., SAP Analysis Cloud) is mandatory. Experience translating business requirements into data specifications and documentation is also required. Experience with data science approaches, ERP systems (SAP), and programming languages (SQL, Python, R) is desirable.
