The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), a United Nations regional commission, hosts the Digital Development Observatory (DDO). This internship supports the DDO's mandate to analyze digital transformation and artificial intelligence policies within Latin America and the Caribbean, contributing to regional knowledge and policy development.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to strengthen the analytical capacity of ECLAC’s Digital Development Observatory (DDO) concerning artificial intelligence (AI) policies in Latin America and the Caribbean. The intern will conduct in-depth reviews and syntheses of national AI policies, strategies, and regulatory initiatives. The primary goal is to identify key trends, commonalities, and gaps in regional AI policy development, organizing this information to serve as substantive input for the DDO's knowledge products and online platform. This role contributes to ECLAC's mission of promoting sustainable and inclusive digital transformation across the region.
Responsibilities
The intern will be responsible for identifying and collecting relevant national artificial intelligence strategies, digital transformation agendas, and regulatory documents from Latin American and Caribbean countries. This involves reviewing and summarizing policy content, highlighting objectives, institutional arrangements, and implementation mechanisms. The role includes systematizing this information by country for comparative analysis, mapping policy priorities, and identifying emerging trends and gaps. Additionally, the intern will contribute to the DDO's website content by preparing analytical inputs and country summaries, and support the production of AI-related indicators and knowledge products. Maintaining organized documentation and participating in coordination meetings are also key duties.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is essential. Experience in digital economy measurement, policy and strategy development, or analyzing national/regional policy processes is desirable. The ability to manipulate and analyze data is also considered advantageous.
