Organizational Context

The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Lima, Peru, is part of the Department of Global Communications. UNICs are crucial for disseminating UN information globally, fostering public understanding, and engaging with media, educational institutions, governments, civil society, and the private sector. This role supports UNIC Lima's mission.

Job Purpose

This internship at UNIC Lima aims to support the Department of Global Communications in its mission to inform the public about the United Nations. The intern will assist in producing and delivering communication products and services, engaging in media outreach, and updating digital platforms. The role contributes to raising public awareness and understanding of the UN's work, particularly in Peru, by disseminating information and supporting communication campaigns. This position offers a practical learning experience in international communications and public information within a UN context.

Responsibilities

Provide general office support and respond to information requests. Draft media and communication documents, including press releases and information materials for mass media and civil society. Assist in producing and delivering information products and services, and updating the UN website and social media accounts with relevant content. Support media outreach efforts and help maintain internal databases. Assist with audio-visual materials, including digital imaging, photo captioning, and video/film projects. Contribute to the development and production of social media content and online initiatives to raise awareness of UN work. Monitor media and social platforms for relevant news and reactions, and assist in preparing daily news briefs.

Work Experience

Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a strong interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals are essential. Practical experience in communications or related fields is beneficial.

Skills

Proficiency in standard software applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams). Familiarity with design software (Adobe Creative Cloud) is desirable. Ability to draft news articles and social media posts is desirable. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable. Fluency in Spanish (oral and written) is required. Fluency in English is desirable.
