The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the UN system's focal point for coordinating disaster risk reduction efforts. It guides, monitors, and reports on the Sendai Framework, promoting global awareness and action with UN Member States and diverse partners. This role supports UNDRR's efforts in Venezuela.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNDRR's mission to advance resilient recovery in Venezuela following recent earthquakes. The purpose is to provide strategic input, develop technical products, and engage stakeholders to ensure recovery efforts are risk-informed, resilient, inclusive, and sustainable. The consultant will contribute to strengthening national and subnational capacities for earthquake risk assessment and reduction, integrating disaster risk reduction principles into reconstruction, and promoting knowledge sharing on resilient recovery practices. The aim is to build back better and enhance institutional readiness for future disaster events.
Responsibilities
The Technical Advisor will support UNDRR's strategic engagement and technical delivery for resilient recovery in Venezuela. Key responsibilities include participating in inter-agency coordination mechanisms with government, development partners, and civil society; providing technical input for post-disaster assessments and recovery planning; integrating disaster risk reduction and resilience principles into reconstruction initiatives; promoting risk-informed planning to reduce vulnerabilities; developing technical proposals and partnership frameworks; and supporting knowledge generation and dissemination on resilient recovery best practices and policy recommendations.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience is required in disaster risk reduction, disaster emergency preparedness and response, humanitarian action, resilient recovery, urban planning, or sustainable development.
