Organizational Context
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), part of the UN Secretariat, is seeking a consultant based in Santiago. This role supports a project focused on cultural economics, contributing to research and analysis on household spending, cultural employment, and international trade in cultural goods and services.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to generate statistical information and analytical texts on household expenditure in culture, cultural employment, and international trade in cultural goods and services. The consultant will contribute key chapters to a primary research document for the project. This involves processing household income and expenditure survey data, homologating occupational classifications, supporting trade data recovery and processing, preparing comparative tables and graphs, and drafting specific report sections and thematic boxes. The role is crucial for advancing the project's research objectives and producing comprehensive analytical outputs.
Responsibilities
Under the Project Manager's supervision, the consultant will conduct research tasks, including processing household income and expenditure survey data to generate cultural spending indicators. This involves homologating occupational classifiers for household surveys to produce cultural employment indicators. The consultant will also support the recovery and processing of COMTRADE database information. Key duties include preparing comparative tables and graphs with notes, drafting a report section on household spending, and co-authoring a chapter on cultural employment. Additionally, the consultant will develop thematic boxes as agreed with the project counterpart.
Work Experience
Required: Experience in social policies or quantitative social information management. Desirable: Experience in processing household income and expenditure surveys, occupational classification homologation, and trade data analysis.
Skills
Statistical data processing, analytical writing, report drafting, comparative analysis, proficiency in Spanish (written reports), knowledge of English (bibliographic review).
