This internship is situated within the Humanitarian Programme Cycle Section (HPCS), which provides normative guidance, policy development, technical field support, and capacity-building on analysis and planning. The role contributes to OCHA's mandate of assessing and addressing worldwide humanitarian needs.
Job Purpose
The primary purpose of this internship is to support the Humanitarian Programme Cycle Section (HPCS) in its critical work related to global humanitarian affairs. The intern will contribute significantly to the Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO) by reviewing and synthesizing data, identifying global drivers of need, and supporting the development of tools for efficient resource allocation. Furthermore, the role involves providing essential support for the Humanitarian Action Platform, assisting country teams in digitalizing their humanitarian needs and response plans, ensuring data consistency, and delivering training. The intern will also aid in the coordination, consolidation, and quality review of humanitarian planning products within the broader Humanitarian Programme Cycle. This contribution is vital for enhancing the United Nations' capacity to assess, plan, and respond effectively to humanitarian crises worldwide, ultimately improving the delivery of life-saving aid and protecting vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of a supervisor, the intern will undertake specific tasks across three key projects. For the Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO), responsibilities include reviewing and synthesizing data and trends from various sources, supporting the identification of global drivers of need, key humanitarian needs, response gaps, and funding trends across crises. The intern will also assist in developing tools and processes, drafting content, preparing visualizations, and coordinating inputs from country and regional offices. Regarding the Humanitarian Action Platform, the intern will provide support to country teams in digitalizing their humanitarian needs and response plans, acting as a support desk. This involves assisting with data structuring, entry, consistency, and analysis, updating training materials, providing training to country teams, and participating in technical meetings. For the Humanitarian Programme Cycle (HPC), the intern will support the planning component by assisting with the coordination, consolidation, and quality review of humanitarian planning products developed by country teams.
