Health and Wellness Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) serves as the UN headquarters in Africa, providing administrative, security, conference, and information services. This internship is within the Joint Medical Services (JMS) department, located in Gigiri, Nairobi, supporting the wellness program for UN staff. The role offers a 6-month learning opportunity under the supervision of a Senior Nurse.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in health and wellness program implementation within a UN setting. The intern will support the JMS Wellness Programme by assisting in the development of communication tools, organizing health promotion and outreach activities, and providing administrative support. Key contributions include promoting staff wellness through various initiatives like healthy U campaigns, fitness activities, and nutrition awareness. The role also involves disseminating health information, assisting with data collection and analysis for program evaluation, and supporting public health awareness campaigns, including those related to infectious disease prevention and the HIV Workplace Programme. This experience is designed to foster learning and skill development aligned with academic objectives.
Responsibilities
Assist in preparing health and wellness communication materials. Support health promotion and outreach activities focused on staff wellness, including participation in campaigns and fitness events. Provide administrative support for wellness activities and promote awareness of healthy nutrition. Disseminate health information via the JMS website, newsletters, and social media. Aid in data collection, analytics, research support, monitoring, evaluation, surveys, interviews, report writing, and presenting recommendations. Promote public health awareness and support interventions for infectious disease prevention and control. Assist with administrative tasks for the HIV Workplace Programme, including support for the annual UN Run and Children’s HIV training. Perform other assigned duties as needed.
