Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator's Office (UN RCO) in Luanda, Angola, operates under a global reform initiative to enhance the UN Development System's effectiveness in achieving the 2030 Agenda and SDGs. The office supports national development priorities and SDG attainment, led by an empowered UN Resident Coordinator. This driver position reports to the Head of the Resident Coordinator's Office/Team Leader.
Job Purpose
The driver's primary purpose is to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and general cargo goods within Luanda, Angola. This role involves making deliveries between offices and institutions, collecting urgent purchases, and assisting with customs procedures. The driver is also responsible for meeting official personnel at the airport, interacting tactfully with officials and visitors, and performing essential daily vehicle maintenance, including minor repairs and ensuring cleanliness. Additionally, the driver will maintain logs for fuel consumption and maintenance, and follow all procedures in case of an accident, applying good judgment in all assignments. The role may also involve assisting with data collection and basic report preparation.
Responsibilities
The driver is responsible for operating vehicles safely for personnel and cargo transport. Key duties include making deliveries of parcels and documents between various offices and institutions, such as Ministries and Embassies. The role also involves making minor purchases and collecting urgent items from local suppliers, as well as handling customs clearance for goods. Meeting official personnel at the airport and interacting professionally with officials and visitors are also core responsibilities. Furthermore, the driver must perform daily vehicle maintenance, including checks on oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, conduct minor repairs, and ensure the vehicle remains clean. Accurate logging of fuel consumption and maintenance records is required, along with adherence to accident reporting procedures. The driver will also assist with data collection, analysis, and basic report preparation as needed.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required. Experience driving various vehicle types is necessary. Experience with the UN or similar international organizations, providing driving and protocol support to senior officials, and basic computer skills are desirable. Knowledge of driving regulations and basic vehicle repair skills are required.
