Organizational Context
The Department of Operational Support (DOS) provides comprehensive operational support, advisory services, and solutions across the UN Secretariat. This internship is within the Planning, Design and Construction Section (PDCS) of the Facilities and Commercial Activities Service (FCAS) in New York, focusing on facility management and Member State artwork.
Job Purpose
This internship within the UN Secretariat's Department of Operational Support (DOS), specifically the Planning, Design and Construction Section (PDCS), offers a 3-6 month opportunity to gain practical experience. The role supports the examination and reporting on building use, facility management, and the cataloging and management of Member State artwork gifts. Interns will contribute to updating floor plans, maintaining gift inventory databases, and researching relevant information, playing a key role in the section's operational efficiency and record-keeping.
Responsibilities
Assist in reviewing and updating the gift inventory list and catalogue, including providing updated digital information. Support the maintenance of database records in Excel/SharePoint and paper formats. Update gift database entries for locations and associated information using Excel and electronic folders. Conduct research for information files and organize them in electronic storage. Perform other related duties as required to support the section's operations. This includes assisting with facility management matters and workspace accommodations within the UN complex.
Work Experience
No prior work experience is required for this internship. However, computer literacy in standard software applications, including MS Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), is necessary. Experience in information cataloguing is considered a plus.
