Organizational Context
The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) is a UN entity established in 1968 to prevent crime and facilitate criminal justice globally. It supports intergovernmental and governmental organizations in policy development. This remote, full-time, unpaid internship contributes to the project "Strengthening ASEAN Capacity for Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Disinformation Detection and Response".
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support UNICRI's project focused on enhancing ASEAN Member States' capacity to detect and respond to Chemical, Biological, and Radiological (CBR) disinformation. The intern will conduct crucial research, map existing frameworks, and monitor disinformation trends to aid in drafting national reports and supporting project activities. This role provides a practical learning experience in international crime prevention, criminal justice, and the complex issue of CBR disinformation, contributing to UNICRI's mandate of advancing understanding and fostering efficient justice systems. The intern will gain exposure to international cooperation and policy development in a critical security domain.
Responsibilities
Conduct desk research on CBR disinformation trends, narratives, and incidents in ASEAN Member States to support national report drafting. Map existing national policies, strategies, and institutional frameworks for CBR crisis communication. Monitor and compile media and social media for emerging CBR disinformation narratives. Support the drafting and editing of national reports, annual magazine, and progress reports. Assist in preparing background documents, agendas, and briefing notes for virtual and in-country missions. Support the coordination of in-country missions, including travel logistics and liaison with local counterparts. Help prepare presentations, infographics, and visual materials for workshops and missions. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, previous working experience in law enforcement, criminal justice, and/or disinformation is desirable. Experience in CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) risk mitigation is also desirable. Applicants must be computer literate and able to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
