Organizational Context
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is a United Nations regional commission promoting cooperation among 52 member States and 9 associate members to address sustainable development challenges. This internship is within the Section on Sustainable Development and Countries in Special Situations (SDCSS), which supports LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS. Job Purpose
This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the United Nations Secretariat, specifically at the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The intern will contribute to critical background research for ESCAP publications, including the Asia-Pacific Countries with Special Needs Development Report, and support the coordination of high-level intergovernmental meetings. This role is designed to develop both analytical and coordination skills by engaging in literature reviews, data collection and analysis, drafting policy inputs, and assisting with the logistical and organizational aspects of various events. The intern will work collaboratively within a dynamic team environment, contributing to daily activities and operational tasks, thereby gaining valuable insights into sustainable development challenges and international cooperation within the Asia-Pacific region.
Responsibilities
Contribute to background research for policy reports, including literature reviews, data collection, analysis, and drafting inputs for publications such as the Asia-Pacific Countries with Special Needs Development Report. Conduct research for analytical products to support workshops and capacity development events. Assist in the logistical and organizational coordination of intergovernmental meetings and events, such as the Expert Group Meeting on the Asia-Pacific Countries with Special Needs Development Report, trade capacity building workshops, and the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development. Collaborate with the team on daily activities and operational tasks. Perform other duties as required to support the Section's objectives.
