Job Purpose
This expert will lead the technical and operational assessment of solid waste management in El Potrerillo Market, identifying gaps and opportunities. The role involves evaluating and selecting organic waste treatment solutions, supervising implementation partners, and ensuring the quality and feasibility of proposed systems. A key aspect is coordinating with diverse stakeholders, including public institutions, waste operators, and community groups, to foster implementation and long-term operational sustainability. The expert will also facilitate participatory processes, manage implementation activities, identify and mitigate risks, and support the development of sustainability strategies and capacity-building initiatives.
Responsibilities
Lead technical and operational assessments of solid waste management, identifying gaps and opportunities. Evaluate and select organic waste treatment and valorization solutions. Supervise and coordinate implementing partners and contractors for studies, designs, and infrastructure implementation. Ensure the technical quality, feasibility, and readiness of all proposed solutions and models. Lead coordination with territorial stakeholders, public institutions, waste operators, and community actors for sustainability. Facilitate participatory and interinstitutional processes for system implementation and validation. Coordinate and supervise field implementation activities, including monitoring construction, installation, and testing. Identify and propose mitigation for implementation risks, operational bottlenecks, and coordination challenges. Support the development of operational sustainability strategies, including governance and financing. Provide technical support to other UN-Habitat projects, including reviews and documentation. Develop technical progress reports, monitoring documents, and final assessments.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressive professional experience in solid waste management, environmental infrastructure, circular economy, or urban resilience projects is required. Experience in implementing and operationalizing waste management systems or environmental infrastructure is desirable. Experience supervising implementation processes, contractors, and coordinating diverse stakeholders is also desirable.
