Technical Advisor to support the coordination and implementation of sessions of the IX Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean (RP27) in The Bahamas
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the UN focal point for coordinating disaster reduction efforts globally. It guides, monitors, and reports on the Sendai Framework implementation, fostering collaboration with member states and stakeholders. This role supports the coordination and organization of the IX Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (RP27) in The Bahamas.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to ensure the coordinated preparation, delivery, and follow-up of all sessions and related documentation for the IX Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean (RP27). The role will support the Government of The Bahamas and UNDRR in organizing this significant event, which serves as a platform for member states to share experiences, build capacities, and showcase successes in disaster risk reduction. The objective is to enhance participation and commitment to the Sendai Framework and disaster risk management as a component of sustainable development, with a special focus on Small Island Developing States.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for supporting the review and development of the RP27 agenda and coordinating meetings with relevant stakeholders. Key duties include managing session logistics for virtual and hybrid formats, ensuring concept notes, scripts, speaker lists, and presentations are prepared and disseminated. The role involves promoting gender and geographical balance among speakers and liaising with logistics providers for high-quality service delivery. Additionally, the consultant will support the drafting of the Chair’s Summary and communiqué, prepare the programme brochure and proceedings, and facilitate coordination between disaster risk management entities and UNDRR. An after-action review, including lessons learned, will also be supported.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive professional experience in disaster risk reduction, climate change, or sustainable development is required. Experience with intergovernmental mechanisms, disaster risk reduction platforms, and UN or international organization activities is necessary. Event management experience, particularly in organizing and facilitating international workshops and meetings, is desirable.
