Organizational Context

The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), established by UNGA resolution 1990 (2011), requires a Land Surveyor. This role is crucial for supporting UNISFA's infrastructure projects by providing essential geospatial data and survey expertise within the Abyei region.

Job Purpose

The Land Surveyor is responsible for supporting UNISFA's infrastructure development and maintenance by delivering precise geospatial data and accurate survey maps. This involves conducting detailed topographical and boundary surveys for various facilities, roads, and utilities. The role is critical for effective project planning, execution, and problem-solving related to site elevations and construction alignments. By producing geo-referenced maps, profiles, and reports, the Land Surveyor ensures that all infrastructure work adheres to design specifications and contributes to the overall operational success of the mission in Abyei.

Responsibilities

Conduct detailed topographic and boundary surveys for camps, roads, facilities, and utilities. Prepare geo-referenced survey maps, profiles, and reports using specialized software such as AutoCAD, GIS, Infraworks, and Global Mapper. Record essential terrain data, including elevations, contours, and land features. Assist in site layout, setting construction boundaries, and verifying project design alignments. Provide guidance to junior survey staff and collaborate with external surveyors. Maintain an updated digital database of all survey records. Support elevation adjustments for road, drainage, and helipad construction/repair projects. Deliver regular progress reports, recommend solutions for survey challenges, and assist with cost estimates for survey-related works. Perform other assigned tasks as directed by the Chief Engineer.

Work Experience

A minimum of 5 years of experience in land surveying is required, with a focus on infrastructure projects. Experience with modern surveying equipment and software (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS) is essential. Previous UN or international field experience is considered an advantage.
