Organizational Context

The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is a key international agreement addressing desertification, land degradation, and drought. Established in 1994, it links environment and development to sustainable land management. This role supports the UNCCD's efforts to gather visual materials for its campaigns.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to produce high-quality photographs and b-roll footage for the UNCCD's mainstream and social media campaigns, specifically for the seventeenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17). The photographer will document land restoration and drought resilience efforts in Mongolia, capture the activities of the Executive Secretary, and showcase the work of the secretariat. The role contributes to raising awareness and communicating the UNCCD's mission and impact through compelling visual storytelling, ensuring materials are ready for publication across various media platforms.

Responsibilities

The photographer will gather high-quality images and b-roll footage related to land restoration and drought resilience, including UNCCD staff, experts, high-level personalities, and key events. Responsibilities include drafting short descriptive stories and tagging images accurately. The role requires producing and delivering high-resolution products within tight deadlines, consulting on venues and subjects in advance, and obtaining necessary clearances. The photographer will participate in team planning, produce ready-to-publish materials for diverse media, adhere to ethical journalism standards, protect subject dignity, and apply UNCCD branding guidelines. A final report and delivery of all materials are also required.

Work Experience

A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in photography and visual storytelling is required. Experience publishing for international audiences is considered an advantage.
