International Consultant (Quantitative Research and Visualization)
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is conducting research and analysis on migrant smuggling as part of the Generating the Knowledge Base on Migrant Smuggling (GEMS) Initiative. This role supports UNODC's efforts to build an actionable evidence base for counter-smuggling interventions, focusing on updating and expanding research on global smuggling routes and trends.
Job Purpose
This consultancy role supports the UNODC's GEMS Initiative by contributing to research activities on migrant smuggling. The consultant will assist the research team in implementing research, providing specific support for qualitative methods, analysis, and the design and organization of initiative events. The primary goal is to enhance the actionable evidence base to inform effective policy and practice in combating migrant smuggling, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of global smuggling phenomena and trends across various routes.
Responsibilities
Conduct desk-based literature reviews and collect/analyze information online. Support the development of research methodologies and tools, including key informant interview questionnaires. Contribute to drafting and reviewing research documents in multiple UN official languages. Assist in compiling participant lists, booking venues, and preparing concept notes and agendas for GEMS initiative meetings and expert group events. Support the organization and execution of research dissemination events, ensuring smooth logistical arrangements and effective communication.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in research and/or communication is required. Experience with UN organizations and knowledge of qualitative research methods are desirable. Prior experience in research related to drugs and crime, specifically migrant smuggling, is also preferred.
Skills
Qualitative research methods, data collection and analysis, research methodology development, report drafting and review, event organization and logistics, strong written and oral communication skills in English.
