DDR Programming Support Intern
Organizational Context
The Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Branch, within the Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO) of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations (DPPA-DPO), provides essential planning and operational support for DDR programs and community violence reduction initiatives. This role is situated within the UN Secretariat in New York, contributing to global peace and security efforts.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration processes within a UN peacekeeping context. The intern will support the DDR Branch by assisting in research, document drafting, data visualization, and communication efforts. This role contributes to the UN's mandate of preventing conflict and sustaining peace by supporting critical peacebuilding activities across various missions and non-mission settings. The intern will gain exposure to inter-agency collaboration and the development of peace support strategies.
Responsibilities
The intern will assist in drafting and reviewing briefing notes and reports. Key duties include conducting research on current DDR developments in assigned countries and supporting the Inter-Agency Working Group on DDR. The role involves data visualization through designing UML diagrams and assisting in the creation and dissemination of communication materials. Responsibilities also include maintaining fact sheets, attending relevant conferences and meetings to provide briefings, and providing administrative support to the DDR Branch, including meeting organization. The intern will perform other duties as assigned by their supervisor.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must meet the specified educational criteria. A field of study relevant to the internship is necessary. Applicants should possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
