Organizational Context
The Human Rights and Gender Thematic Group, part of the UN Secretariat's Resident Coordinator System in Skopje, promotes gender equality and human rights. This role supports initiatives focused on inclusive participation and social change, with communication, advocacy, and youth engagement as key pillars for advancing gender equality.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the UN's efforts in promoting gender equality and human rights through effective communication, advocacy, and youth mobilization. The intern will contribute to developing and implementing youth-oriented strategies, amplifying young voices, and fostering intergenerational dialogue. Key contributions include creating advocacy materials, engaging with youth groups and civil society, organizing events, and supporting UN joint campaigns to advance gender equality and women's empowerment.
Responsibilities
Support the design and implementation of communication and advocacy initiatives focused on gender equality, with a youth-oriented approach. Develop advocacy messages, talking points, and visibility materials for young audiences. Create communication content for campaigns and UN joint initiatives, including social media posts and articles. Assist in data-informed advocacy through simple data visualizations. Engage with youth groups, student associations, and CSOs working on gender equality. Mobilize young people for consultations, campaigns, and events. Support the organization of youth-focused dialogues and workshops. Assist in preparing and implementing joint UN gender campaigns, coordinating partners, and following up with stakeholders. Review and summarize relevant documents and reports. Maintain databases of stakeholders and initiatives. Support UN reporting processes related to gender equality and advocacy.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to communications or advocacy is necessary. Previous engagement in youth activities, volunteering, or student organizations is desirable.
Skills
Communication and advocacy skills, youth engagement, event organization, knowledge management, data visualization, MS Office proficiency (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams), familiarity with digital/AI communication tools (advantageous), strong interest in gender equality and women's empowerment, ability to work with diverse groups.
