National interior design Expert
Organizational Context
The UN-Habitat Sub-Regional Office in Tunisia provides policy advice, technical cooperation, and capacity building to empower vulnerable populations. It focuses on SDG localization and participatory governance, aiming to deliver adequate housing, basic services, and land for all. The office addresses the significant challenges faced by over 500,000 persons with disabilities in Tunisia, who experience exclusion and limited access to essential services.
Job Purpose
This role supports the National Social Housing Program by adapting housing units for individuals with disabilities. The expert will develop interior design plans, propose accessibility improvements, and oversee the implementation of modifications. The purpose is to ensure that social housing meets the diverse needs of people with disabilities, enhancing their access to adequate shelter and improving their quality of life. This involves close consultation with UN-Habitat, the Tunisian Ministry of Equipment and Housing, and beneficiaries, contributing to inclusive urban development and systemic transformation in line with UN-Habitat's strategic plan.
Responsibilities
The National Interior Design Expert will prepare interior design plans for housing units, focusing on adapting them to specific disability needs. This includes proposing improvements for house unit access and the installation of external equipment. Key duties involve conducting housing assessments to understand beneficiary needs, developing accessible interior design plans, and coordinating/overseeing modification works with contractors and stakeholders. The expert will also monitor the progress and quality of implementation to ensure compliance with design and accessibility requirements. Additionally, the role includes developing and delivering training on disability-specific design standards and conducting practical guidance sessions to build capacity among beneficiaries and NGOs in advocating for inclusive solutions.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Architecture is required. Experience working with governments and in participatory planning processes is desirable. Experience in designing and piloting works specifically for people with disabilities is also desirable.
