Organizational Context
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is a UN agency established in 1949. It provides assistance and protection to approximately 5 million registered Palestine Refugees across the Middle East. UNRWA's mandate includes education, health care, relief, social services, and emergency assistance, making it the largest UN operation in the region.
Job Purpose
This internship role within the Programme Education department at UNRWA Headquarters in Amman supports the development and implementation of educational initiatives. The intern will contribute to enhancing learning materials, conducting policy reviews, and assisting in strategic discussions related to education. The position aims to provide practical experience in education policy and project coordination within a large humanitarian organization, contributing to the agency's mission of helping Palestine Refugees achieve their full potential in human development.
Responsibilities
Assist in the development and revision of learning materials, ensuring alignment with UN principles and UNESCO standards. Conduct content analysis and desk research on best practices in education policy, digital learning, and teacher capacity-building. Support research and policy review by gathering and synthesizing relevant literature, data, and case studies. Provide assistance in drafting and reviewing policy documents, summarizing key issues and recommendations. Contribute to strategic discussions by preparing background briefs, meeting notes, and summaries of workshops. Assist in developing reports and presentations by organizing information clearly. Manage project coordination tasks related to education policy and curriculum development, ensuring quality requirements and UNRWA branding guidelines are met.
Work Experience
Demonstrated interest or experience in policy or project management is desirable. Advanced IT skills, particularly in data analysis and visualization (e.g., Power BI), are beneficial. Strong organizational and excellent communication skills are required for this role.
