Organizational Context
The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) coordinates global environmental policy. Its Industry and Economy Division supports governments and organizations in developing sustainable practices. The Economics and Fiscal Policy Unit (EFPU) specifically focuses on sustainable public finance and hosts technical support for the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action (CFMCA).
Job Purpose
This role is to provide comprehensive editorial services for the update of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action's flagship guide, 'Strengthening the Role of Ministries of Finance in Driving Climate Action,' and its companion website. The purpose is to ensure all materials are publication-ready, coherent, and aligned with the project's style guide. The editor will contribute to the timely and accurate dissemination of crucial information on climate action for finance ministries, supporting global efforts towards sustainable economic and environmental objectives.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is to copy-edit and lightly substantively edit all sections of the updated flagship guide, including theme pages, case studies, and country examples. This includes editing content for the companion website, such as landing pages and navigation copy. The role also involves editing ministerial-facing communication products. A key duty is ensuring internal consistency in terminology, tone, usage, and voice across material from multiple contributors, while also flagging substantive questions to the project lead. Edited materials must be returned with tracked changes and editorial notes on a rolling basis, adhering to tight schedules.
Work Experience
Requires at least 7 years of demonstrated experience editing publications for senior policy or government audiences, preferably within international organizations, finance ministries, or comparable institutions. Experience in harmonizing voice and style across diverse contributors' work and editing for both web and print formats is essential. A proven track record of meeting tight deadlines is also required.
