Job Purpose
This internship at the UN-Habitat Montreal Office provides crucial support in research, data collection, and analysis for sustainable urbanization initiatives. The role contributes to evidence-based policy advice, knowledge management, and the development of urban sustainability solutions. By assisting with quantitative and qualitative research, data analysis, and presentation preparation, the intern plays a key part in advancing UN-Habitat's strategic plan. This position offers an opportunity to engage with diverse urban stakeholders and contribute to global efforts in creating more equitable and resilient cities, focusing on areas like housing, land use, and basic service provision.
Responsibilities
The intern will support quantitative and qualitative research activities, including identifying metrics, collecting data from various sources, and performing analysis focused on sustainable urbanization sectors like housing, land use, and mobility. Responsibilities include integrating data collection and analysis approaches for project design and evaluation, and preparing presentations of findings. The role also involves contributing to evidence-based policy advice for sustainable urbanization in Canada and globally, supporting the diffusion of knowledge through partnerships, and assisting with UN-Habitat's global event preparations. Additionally, the intern will help develop and maintain databases and undertake other relevant tasks as assigned by the team.
Work Experience
While professional work experience is not required for this internship, applicants must have previous academic or professional experience in quantitative research, including a basic understanding of statistical methods. Experience in the urban development sector, covering areas such as housing, mobility, urban design, or governance, is also required. This experience can be gained through academic projects or research, such as a thesis.
Skills
Quantitative and qualitative research, data collection and analysis, presentation preparation, evidence-based policy advice, knowledge management, database development and maintenance, computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite), strong interest in UN work, cross-cultural communication, fluency in English.
