Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the UN entity focused on sustainable urbanization and human settlements. It works globally with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities. This internship is based in UN-Habitat's Country and/or Project Offices in New Delhi, India, or Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, contributing to regional and country-level initiatives.
Job Purpose
This internship offers a dynamic learning environment within UN-Habitat, closely linking local and country-level technical assistance with normative work. The intern will gain practical experience by supporting country-level programmes and projects, contributing to UN-Habitat's strategic plan for sustainable urban development. The role involves assisting in project monitoring, reporting, research, and inter-agency collaboration, providing valuable exposure to the UN system's approach to urbanization challenges and solutions. This position is ideal for students seeking to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting focused on improving urban living conditions and promoting sustainable urban practices across the Asia-Pacific region.
Responsibilities
The intern will support country-level programmes and projects, focusing on monitoring, reporting, and evaluation. Key duties include assisting in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of projects, and supporting inter-agency and country team collaboration on development and humanitarian issues. The role also involves aiding in the administration, budgeting, and management of ongoing projects. Furthermore, the intern will support tracking funding calls, resource mobilization, and information/knowledge management. Responsibilities extend to assisting in the preparation of concept papers, project documents, publications, and communication materials, including web content. The intern will also help organize and follow up on meetings and workshops, and undertake other assignments as required.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must be pursuing or have completed a university degree in a field closely related to the internship's focus on sustainable urban development or related areas. A demonstrated ability to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds and strong research and communication skills are beneficial.
