The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), part of the UN Secretariat, is implementing a technical assistance project with Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Economy and Planning. This consultancy role supports the development and strengthening of interconnected trade analysis tools, specifically focusing on extending ESCWA's trade negotiation and simulation capabilities.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to enhance Saudi Arabia's trade analysis capabilities by developing and enforcing a Trade Simulator Interface. The consultant will create a tracking and monitoring system for barriers to trade in services, refine automatic brief generation from the GETSI tool, and prepare user guides and training materials. The ultimate goal is to support the development and strengthening of interconnected trade analysis tools, enabling national teams to effectively utilize new trade simulation interfaces and improve trade policy analysis.
Responsibilities
The consultant will develop a comprehensive tracking and monitoring system for barriers to trade in services in Saudi Arabia and its key partners. This system will categorize barriers by type (legal, STRI, AVEs) and mode of supply. Additionally, the consultant will refine and improve the generation of automatic briefs from the updated GETSI tool for Saudi Arabia. The role also involves preparing methodological notes, user guides, and training content to ensure national teams can effectively utilize the new trade simulation interfaces and analytical tools.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of professional experience in economic research and policy analysis, with a specific focus on international trade, is required. Experience in drafting technical documentation, methodological notes, and policy-oriented analytical outputs is also necessary. Experience with AI tools for economic/trade analysis and programming languages like Python is required.
